SANDY CARSON GALLERY PRESENTS
FOUR ARTISTS WORKING IN ENCAUSTIC:

The Sandy Carson Gallery will exhibit encaustic painting by four artists. Encaustic was developed by the Egyptians, a mix of beeswax and pigments which imparts a depth and richness that only pigment cannot.
Cindy Stockton Moore
Cindy Stockton Moore works in New York and Paints the figure and landscape, which look at close examination like dabs and blobs of color and, in fact make oceans and mountain pools with bathers alone or in relation to each other. They speak of the very social isolation that is common experience to many as well as moments of quiet tranquility. |

Mark Rediske’s work marries the archaic with the contemporary. His images of Urns, birds and heraldry are made even more mysterious with the use of the encaustic medium.

Tracey Adams is a California artist whose recent work in the encaustic medium deals with atmospheres and geometry. The compositions are minimal, cool, meditations on balance.

Tony Scherman, a Canadian artist nationally known for his innovative use of this material, paints realistic subjects of people landscape and still life that only come into clear focus as the viewer moves away. Closer they become lush swirls and marks that appear more an abstraction than representation.
